Hand Ranking
There are roughly 2.6million ways to come up with
5 cards to form a hand. When you form 5 a hand it will land in one
of these categories. When two players tie (have the same hand) most
of the time the winner is decided by who has the higher cards)
Lets start with the best hand possible...
- Royal Flush (4 possible
hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 0.000154%) consists of a
straight flush, except it starts with 10 and goes to the Ace. It
must be all of the same suit, and no cards can be missing from
linking them together. (example: if you had A, K, J, 10, 9 all of
spades, that is not a royal flush because you are missing the queen)
Next up is...

-
Straight Flush (36 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one:
0.00139%) is like a royal flush except it covers the whole range of
cards. Like in the picture, as long as it is five cards all linked
together of the same suit.
And then...

-
Four
of a Kind (624 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one:
0.0240%) is easy to understand, four of one type of card (not
suits).
Then the Boat...

-
Full
House (3744 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 0.144%)
also known as the boat. This is when you have three of one card, and
two of another. If cards pair on the table, be careful...because if
it gives you two pair, someone might have a full house.
Now one of my favorites...

-
Flush
(5108 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 0.197%) is
when you have five cards that are all the same suit (5 diamonds, 5
spades, 5 hearts, 5 clubs). This is one of the biggest drawing hands
that people go for.
And right up the alley comes...

-
Straight (10,200 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one:
0.392%) is when you have five cards that can be arranged in order.
Note: although A,2,3,4,5 and 10,J,Q,K,A are straights. Q,K,A,2,3 is
NOT a straight, nothing past the ace.
Everyone loves flopping a set...

-
Three
of a Kind (54912 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one:
2.11%) is when you have three of one card.
Now the more common hands...

-
Two
Pair (123,552 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 4.75%)
is when you have two of one card, and then two of another card in
the 5 cards you have.
Everyone's gotten one of these before...

-
Pair
(1,098,240 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one: 42.26%)
is just when you have one card matching up with another card you
have, thus making them a pair.
And now comes the rubbish...

-
High
Card (1,302,540 possible hands in 2,598,960. Chance to get one:
50.12%) is when none of your cards fall into the categories above,
and the winner of the hand goes to the person with the highest card
(ace being the highest).
