Absolute Nuts
-
The best possible hand, based on the board cards. Sometimes simply
called ‘the nuts’.
Aces Up - Two pair, a pair
of Aces and any other pair.
Action -
A fold, check, call, bet, or
raise. For certain situations, doing something formally connected
with the game that conveys information about your hand may also be
considered as having taken action. Examples would be showing your
cards at the end of the hand, or indicating the number of cards you
are taking at draw.
Active
-
one who is still in the pot.
Active Player - A player
still involved in a hand.
Aggressive Action - A wager
that could enable a player to win a pot without a showdown; a bet or
raise.
All Blue - A flush with spades or clubs
All Pink
-
A flush with heart or diamonds
All-in - When you have put
all of your playable money and chips into the pot during the course
of a hand, you are said to be all-in.
Anchor
-
the player sitting in the last position at a poker table before the
dealer. This is the person who makes the final decision, thereby
anchoring the game.
American Airlines
-
A pair of Aces.
Angling
-
Taking action or talking when it is not your turn in order to
mislead your opponent. Some consider this to be cheating, others
consider these tactics to be a part of the game.
Animal
-
Nickname for a player that is loose-aggressive.
Animals are involved in too many hands and will almost always bet
and raise when
given the opportunity, often with garbage hands. Also known as a
maniac.
Ante - A
small portion of a bet contributed by each player to seed the pot at
the beginning of a poker hand. Most hold'em games do not have an
ante; they use "blinds" to get initial money into the pot.
