Baby
-
A low-ranked
card (usually 2 through 5).
Backdoor -Catching both the turn and river
card to make a drawing hand. For instance, suppose you have As-7s.
The flop comes Ad-6c-4s. You bet and are called. The turn is the Ts,
which everybody checks, and then the river is the Js. You've made a
"backdoor" nut flush. See also "runner."
Back
Into
-
To make a hand that is different than the hand you were originally
trying for.
Back Raise - To
re-raise another players raise.
Bad Beat - To have a hand that is a large
underdog beat a heavily favored hand. It is generally used to imply
that the winner of the pot had no business being in the pot at all,
and it was the wildest of luck that he managed to catch the one card
in the deck that would win the pot. Example: One player has AsAh and
another has 4d5d (second player is a maniac and is calling all
bets), flop is Ad, Ac, Js at this point between a raise and a
re-raise they both go all in, quads verse nothing. Turn is 3d, river
is 2d. That my friends, is a bad beat (luckiest straight flush
ever).

A draw to fill an inside straight, aka a
gutshot
Bet
– a wager or gamble
Betting Limits

the minimum and maximum that can be wagered on one bet.

full small bet prior to the hole cards being dealt in Hold'em.

-

their betting position.
Bluff
-
in poker, players bluff when raising a weak hand in the hope of
driving out players with a stronger hand.

-
any card placed in the discard rack without being entered into play.
After the deck is shuffled and cut, one card is burned.
B&M
-
Brick and Mortar; a real-life
casino (as opposed to an online casino).
Big
Slick
-
In Texas Hold’em, an Ace and a King (suited or unsuited) as your
hole cards.
Blank - A board card
that doesn't seem to affect the standings in the hand. If the flop
is Ah-Jd-Th, then a turn card of 4s would be considered a blank. On
the other hand, the 4h would not be.
Also known as a rag.
Blind - A forced bet
(or partial bet with small blind) put in by one or more players
before any cards are dealt. Typically, blinds are put in by players
immediately to the left of the button.
Blind Game - A game which
utilizes a blind.
Board

The 5 community cards.
Board Card - A community
card in the center of the table, as in hold’em or Omaha.
Boat
-
Full house.
Bonus
Whoring
-
Belonging to several online poker sites and always taking advantage
of each deposit bonus offered.
Bot
- Short for "robot". In a poker context, a program that plays poker
online with no (or minimal) human intervention.
Bottom Pair - A pair
with the lowest card on the flop. If you have Ah-3h, and the flop
comes Qd-8h-3s, you have flopped bottom pair.
Bounty
-
A reward given in a tournament to someone who meets certain
criteria. Some examples of these criteria from Zoo tournaments are:
knocking a certain person out of the tournament, winning with a
certain hand, and finishing the tournament is a certain position.
Boxed Card - A card that
appears face up in the deck where all other cards are facedown.
BR
-
An abbreviation for bankroll.
Brick and Mortar - A "real" casino or card
room with a building, tables, dealers, etc. This is in contrast to
an online poker site.
Broadway
-
An ace-high
straight.
Broken Game - A game no
longer in action.
Bubble
-
Finishing a tournament in the spot nearest the money. Example: In a
60-person
tournament, if the top 8 spots pay, finishing 9th would be finishing
on the 'bubble'.
Bullets
-
A pair of Aces.
Bump
It
-
To raise.
Burn - To discard the top card from the
deck, face down. This is done between each betting round before
putting out the next community card(s). It is security against any
player recognizing or glimpsing the next card to be used on the
board.
Bust
Out
-
To lose your buy in.
Button
-
The disk that represents the dealer in a given hand.
Button Games - Games in
which a dealer button is used.
Buy-In - An amount of money you pay to
enter a tournament. Often expressed as two numbers, such as $100+9,
meaning that it costs $109 to enter the tournament; $100 goes into
the prize fund and $9 goes to the house.

Betting or raising in order to make any players between you and the
button fold. If successful, you are now last to act on any
subsequent rounds of betting.
